Finding paradise in Indonesia – Le Pirate Island

When you think of Indonesia, I’m sure your mind immediately drifts off to the luscious landscapes of Bali, from the vibrant green rice terraces in Ubud or the crashing ocean waves in Canggu. But one thing you absolutely have to do when you arrive in Bali, is venture further out of Bali.

Le Pirate Island is a private beach resort that’s nestled within the Komodo Islands. It’s absolute paradise, complete with beach huts for bedrooms, so you can gaze across the ocean from your bed. It’s the perfect getaway when you want to completely switch off from the outer world.

With only 10 cabins on the island, it’s relaxing knowing you’re the only ones there able to enjoy this moment. No flocks of people fighting for a spot on the beach. Laze on the daybeds listening to the soft hum of chill house playing in the distance, snorkel the stunning reefs brimming with colourful coral (keep an eye out for flurries of dolphins) and climb up to your beach hut at the end of the day, listening to the waves as you fall asleep. This place is pure bliss.

How to get there

Fly from Denpasar airport to Labuan Bajo in an hour, with flights costing around £80 return. The Le Pirate team have limited ferry services to/from the island to make sure to bear in mind your flight arrival time, as you might need to spend the night in Labuan Bajo before making your way to Le Pirate Island. Want to know where to stay in Labuan Bajo? Check this post here. When you’re ready to catch your ferry to the island, you need to meet at the Le Pirate Main Office, which is directly across from the Le Pirate Labuan Bajo Hotel. From here, your journey to paradise begins!

What’s included

An amazing beach hut, of course. They only have 10 of these on the island so make sure to book in advance. All meals are included, as there are no other restaurants on the island. The meals are so delicious! Lunch consists of grilled protein (chicken, fish, tempeh) served with a buffet of salads and sides. For dinner, they put together a lovely setup, getting everyone on the island to cook together with barbeque style meat/fish.

Apart from water, drinks are not included but there is nothing better than relaxing in a hammock with a refreshing cocktail. You can even whip up your own smoothie with a blender powered by a stationary bike!

The whole island is full of wonderful vibes, with the team being excellent and on hand at any point. You have complimentary access to snorkelling masks, canoes, tennis table, board games, books and they even host outdoor movie nights.

They recently have created their glamping cabins – if you wanted to upscale your experience slightly, the cabins come with private bathrooms.

If you don’t have enough time to stay the night, you can do a day trip here, so you can still experience a slice of the laid back secluded beach. Le Pirate don’t only have this island, they have other accommodation dotted around Indonesia, such as Le Pirate Hotel on Gili Trawangan or Le Pirate Explorer – the ‘boatel’, they really offer amazing experiences no matter where you stay. It really is a dream stay!
